| The Courts can be intimidating for people acting pro se (representing themselves), even in simple and uncontested matters. Owner Karen DeMello has 25+ years of experience in the legal field. She has been a paralegal for general practice attorneys, a facilitator of monthly “do it yourself” divorce clinics, past President of Weld County Legal Services, Division Clerk for a District Court Magistrate, and Unit Supervisor for the Family Courts section of the Weld County Combined Courts. Karen is also an instructor of the mandatory parenting after separation classes required by the Weld County District Courts, and began teaching the "Navigating the Colorado Courts" class at Aims Community College in 2004.
Although Karen is not an attorney and cannot give legal advice, she will utilize her years of experience to assist you in preparing yourself and your documents in certain legal matters. Help Yourself can also help you obtain service of process and provide information on Court procedures. To avoid the unauthorized practice of law, supervision is provided by a licensed attorney.
